Winter hiking in the Montafon
Sparkling powder snow, snow-covered winter landscapes and breathtaking views over a sea of clouds. The winter landscapes of the Montafon with Rätikon, Verwall and Silvretta offer 290 kilometres of groomed and partly illuminated winter hiking trails. All you need are cold-resistant shoes with a tread, some fitness and plenty of time. Countless trails lead through the valley, some on the Silvretta Bielenhöhe, in the Silvretta Montafon ski areas, the Golm ski area, on the sunny Bartholomäberg and Kristberg or in the valley along the River Ill.

Silvretta Bierlerhöhe
Winter hiking tip #1
With the Vermunt cable car - tunnel bus to the Bielerhöhe - past the Vermunt reservoir - Silvretta reservoir
On the Silvretta-Bielerhöhe, three secured winter hiking trails invite you to enjoy. All of them start at the bus stop on the Bielerhöhe.
Silvretta reservoir circular trail:
Duration 0:45 h | ascent 62 metres | descent 65 metres | difficulty: easy
Silvretta high trail:
Duration 1:10 h | ascent 77 metres | descent 76 metres | difficulty: easy
Winter hiking trail to Galtür:
Duration 5:00 h | ascent 406 metres | descent 406 metres | difficulty: medium
While the Bielerhöhe is flooded with visitors in summer, in winter it is a natural idyll in complete silence - not even a bird can be heard chirping. Not that there's nothing going on up there. The Silvretta is known to be a paradise for ski tourers in particular. However, as getting there by cable car and tunnel taxi is a bit of an adventure, the crowds are not so big at this time of year.
Sporty deceleration - at 2000 metres above sea level

Ganta head
Winter hiking tip #2
Versettla mountain station - on a marked path above the mountain station of the Spatla chairlift - Gantekopf 2010 HM
A wonderful ridge winter hike in the Silvretta Montafon ski area offers a sensational panoramic view. Before the start or after the hike, the Nova Stoba invites you to enjoy some delicacies in the winter sun. Ideal for meeting up with skiing friends, recharging your batteries or enjoying the day to the full. After an enjoyable hike, the Versettla cable car takes you back down to the valley in comfort.
Duration 1:00 h | ascent 70 metres | descent 70 metres | difficulty easy

Maisäß Montiel
Winter hiking tip #3
Start at the Genusshotel Vermala - into the valley - on the forest road to Maisäß Montiel
Quiet, romantic hike on the ancestors of the Montafon people. The 3-stage agriculture has led to the development of Maisäß settlements at an altitude of around 1500 metres above sea level. These were inhabited by the whole family and all the livestock in May before going up to the alp. One of the most beautiful is the Maisäß settlement of Montiel. The perfect place to escape the rest of the hustle and bustle of the valley.
Duration 1:30 h | ascent 450 m | descent 450 m | difficulty easy

Maize round Matschwitz on the Golm
Winter hiking tip #5

The circular trail offers a magnificent view of Schruns and the Hochjoch, the Tschaggunser Mittagsspitze and the Schwarzhorn (2,460 m) in the Rätikon mountains. Along the sunny path there are beautiful old Maisäß and the listed chapel.
